DR. Dr. Johan A. Hutauruk, Sp.M(K), an Indonesian citizen, aged 59, has served as President Director of PT Nitrasanata Dharma (JEC Eye Hospitals & Clinics) since 2015. He is a consultant ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery.

Duties and Responsibilities

As President Director of PT Nitrasanata Dharma, he is responsible for overall coordination across all JEC eye hospitals and clinics in Indonesia, including oversight of the Internal Audit Unit.

Career Journey

Prior to his current role as President Director, he served as Director of JEC Menteng Hospital (2011–2015), Director of JEC Kedoya Hospital (2015–2017), Director of Education and Research at JEC (2004–2010), and as a teaching staff member and Service Coordinator in the Department of Ophthalmology, Universitas Indonesia (2009–2012). At the national and international organizational levels, he currently serves as President of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS, 2026–2028), President of the Indonesian Cornea Society (INACORS), and Vice President of the Indonesian Eye Hospital Association (ARSAMI). Previously, he served as President of the Indonesian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (INASCRS, 2003–2013) and Vice President of the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (PERDAMI, 2013–2022). In recognition of his contributions to ophthalmology, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) at the 2008 World Ophthalmology Congress in Hong Kong, the APAO Achievement Award (Taipei, 2016), the Asia Cornea Foundation Lecture Award from the Asia Cornea Society (2024), and the Sidharta Ilyas Award from PERDAMI (2019).

Educational Background

He completed his medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (1991), obtained his Ophthalmology Specialist degree from the Department of Ophthalmology, Universitas Indonesia (1999), and earned his Doctoral degree from Universitas Gadjah Mada (2022). He also pursued advanced training in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery at the John A. Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, United States (2001), and obtained Consultant Ophthalmologist qualification from the Indonesian College of Ophthalmology (2010).
